Is your sanctuary able to help an animal right now?
We only rescue a couple of animals a year due to our resources and making sure we are able to continue the best care possible for all the animals currently in our care. Saying "no" we can't help an animal is one of the hardest things you have to do in running a sanctuary. If you have a farm animal or horse that needs help, you can certainly email us the details and we will do our best to help you find a home through our sanctuary network or offer suggestions to where to reach out to. If you have a dog or cat that needs help, please reach out to a dog or cat rescue as we have not been successful in networking them and we are not able to help right now with a foster like home until we could adopt he or she out.
If you have a farm animal or horse - please email the following info: All the info you know about the animal, any health info (up to date on vaccines? been tested for common species diseases like CAE, CL, and Johnes for goats), location, will transport help be available, timeline, and a picture. This all helps us help the animal. -
I want to start a sanctuary, do you have any advice?
As much as I love this sanctuary and helping animals, it is not an easy life. But I love that you want to start a sanctuary and help animals too. So here is some advice I would give.
First, volunteer at your local sanctuary as you will learn a lot and volunteer when you are tired, have a headache, in the cold, rain and heat as the animals need you everyday so you have to be ready for that. If you like to travel, then I highly advise you do all your traveling prior to starting your sanctuary as getting away is tough. Also, please plan on putting a lot of your own money into the sanctuary as getting fully funded is not easy. Finally, Go To: the Open Sanctuary Project as they have so many amazing resources including starting your own.
Also, be open to helping another existing sanctuary. Some sanctuaries are looking for FT help etc and this would be another great way to learn and possibly better prepare you for your own someday.
